Avakai
Avakai are play companions that encourage screen-free play and emotive communication. The lovingly crafted, durable and locally sourced wooden figurines use Bluetooth technology, bridging the gap between traditional toys and mobile devices. Avakai inspire imaginative and social activities for kids, encouraging them to interact and play with their surroundings, parents and friends. Avakai are available for pre-order on Kickstarter now.
Avakai can communicate with each other and respond via sound, coloured light and through haptic feedback. They can also talk directly to other mobile devices that have the app installed. The technology inside Avakai allows children to send musical messages and share their feelings. It can even be used to add superpowers to classic games like hide-and-seek or treasure hunt. Avakai give kids the freedom to play how they like, and as a result support their cognitive and emotional development.
Seeking funding on Kickstarter is the first step in journey of Avakai. The figurines will be continuously updated through the mobile app to include new features and functionalities. The project will also be open-sourced so anyone can create and build their own ideas around Avakai.
The goal is to raise $70,000/€64.000 on Kickstarter to bring Avakai to life and deliver them to the first kids and parents by March 2016.
Avakai is the first product from Vai Kai, a Berlin-based startup, building more meaningful experiences for the children of the connected world.
